I recently went to a training provided by ChamberWest that lead to me changing tires on a NASCAR. I was so excited and came away with some important tips on teamwork and how I can impact Utah.
1. The most important leadership factor in an employee’s engagement is their direct manager – what are you doing to ensure your direct reports are seen, heard, and know their responsibilities?
2. Know your role and how it affects your team. Being in the right place at the right time to do your job well is essential. What is your role?
3. Watch for ways to help. As lugnuts flew all over the place and I was waiting to grab the tire and run, I saw a place I could help, I gathered lugs so the next job for my tool operator was easier. How can you help others with their roles so the whole picture is better?
4. Be a positive influence. Cheering each other on makes a big difference. Work is more fun when someone is rooting for you.
5. Make small changes and watch the effects. It’s hard to know which change affected the overall efficiency of a project if you make a ton of changes all at once. Make a couple of changes at once, review the impact if has, and then repeat.
These tips are great to remember whether you are trying to impact Utah, your home, your work environment or any other place!
